A Triple Threat: Zombie-based Story, Game and Running App

[ Promotional video on Kickstarter. ]

Zombies, Run!, an interactive mobile app for iOS and Android that enhances runners' experience by scavenging real-life locations for zombie survival tools, has raised $51K+ -- their goal was only $12.5K -- from 2.5K+ backers on Kickstarter.
The extra funding will be used for RunKeeper integration, web integration and multi-player support. [ See our recent story on RunKeeper here. ] Backers who pledge $10+ get early access to the app, while those who pledge $350+ can create and name their own in-game character.

"We're making running more fun, more exciting, and more addictive for everyone from couch-to-5k newbies to weekend joggers and marathon runners," the Kickstarter page states.

LAUNCH has been in contact with Zombies, Run! co-creator Adrian Hon and will update this story when we get more information.

Users collect medicine, ammo and other zombie survival tools while running. The app gives you orders, clues and tells you the storyline through your headphones.

"You tie your shoes, put on your headphones, take your first few steps outside," the Kickstarter page states. "You've barely covered a hundred yards when you hear them. They must be close."

Zombies, Run! follows your route using location-based services and works on any terrain, including treadmills. Once you get home, you assign the items to different parts of your base.

"If you want to get fit while also saving the world, this is the game for you," the Kickstarter page states.

Zombies, Run! will be available for iOS in February 2012 and for Android in May 2012. The app was created by online game-maker Six to Start. The London-based company was founded in 2007 by Adrian and Dan Hon. The team won both the Experimental and Best of Show awards for digital storytelling at SXSW Interactive Awards in 2009.

The app tracks miles ran, feet per mile, time and calories burned. The Base Alpha is where you allocate the items you picked along the way.

You collect survival tools while you run that get automatically added to your base inventory.
